The cars used in Nascar
|
Winston West Series
A NASCAR Winston West Series car is virtually the same as one raced on the NASCAR
Winston Cup Series. Both must maintain a minimum weight of 3,400 pounds and have
a wheelbase of 110 inches. However, while the NASCAR Winston Cup Series car utilizes
a V-8 engine ranging from 350 to 358 cubic inches with a maximum compression ratio
of 12:1, the NASCAR Winston West Series car is powered by a 350 to 358 cubic inch
V-8 engine with a maximum compression ratio of 9.5:1. Approved models include the
Chevrolet Monte Carlo, Pontiac Grand Prix and Ford Thunderbird and Taurus.
|
Busch North Series
Busch North Series events are open to eligible models of 1997-2000 American-made,
steel-bodied production passenger sedans. A Busch North Series car is identical to a
NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division car with only a few exceptions. Both
cars use V-8 engines but a NASCAR Busch Series car must weigh at least 3,300
pounds while a Busch North Series car weighs 3,100 pounds.
|
Slim Jim All Pro Series
Slim Jim All Pro Series races are open to eligible 1997 through 2000 models of
America-made production passenger sedans. All approved cars must have a wheelbase
of 101-105 inches and a maximum tread width of 63 inches. Approved car models for
NASCAR 2000 are the Buick LeSabre and Regal, Chevrolet Monte Carlo, Ford Taurus
and Thunderbird, Oldsmobile Cutlass and Pontiac Grand Prix.
|
Featherlite Modified Series
Featherlite Modified Series races are open to eligible 1983-2000 American-made,
steel-bodied production passenger sedans. Low-slung and fender free, cars must
maintain a minimum wheelbase of 107 inches and a weight of 2,610 pounds. The
average engine displacement is 364 cubic inches and the compression ratio is
limited to 12:1.
|
Featherlite SW Series
Featherlite Southwest Series cars are slightly smaller versions of those seen in the
NASCAR Winston Cup Series. Races are open to 1996-1999 versions of American-made,
steel-bodied production passenger sedans. Approved models include the Chevrolet
Monte Carlo, Ford Thunderbird and Taurus, Oldsmobile Cutlass and Pontiac Grand
Prix. While the NASCAR Winston Cup Series car weighs 3,400 pounds and maintains
a wheelbase of 110 inches, the Featherlite Southwest Series car must weigh a minimum
of 2,900 pounds and have a wheelbase of between 101 and 105 inches. Both cars are
powered by 350 to 358 cubic inch V-8 engines.
|
Goody's Dash Series
A Goody's Dash Series race car is essentially a scaled down version of a NASCAR
Winston Cup Series car. The NASCAR Winston Cup Series car utilizes a V-8 engine
ranging from 350 to 358 cubic inches with a maximum compression ratio of 12:1.
However, the Goody's Dash Series competitor has the option of running either a
168 cubic inch, 13:1 compression four-cylinder engine or a 268 cubic inch, 9:1
compression V-6 engine. A Goody's Dash Series car must weigh 2,650 pounds for
the four-cylinder version or 2,750 pounds for the six-cylinder version with a wheelbase
of 100 inches. Approved models for use in the Goody's Dash Series are the 1996-2000
Chevrolet Cavalier, the 1996-2000 Dodge Avenger, the 1998-2000 Ford Escort ZX2, the
1996 Pontiac Grand Am, the 1996-2000 Pontiac Sunfire, the 1998 Toyota Celica and the
1999-2000 Mercury Cougar.
|
Raybestos NW Series
The Raybestos Brakes Northwest Series cars are slightly smaller versions of those seen
on the NASCAR Winston Cup Series. Races are open to 1997-2000 versions of
American-made, steel bodied production passenger sedans. Approved models include
the Chevrolet Monte Carlo, Ford Thunderbird and Taurus, Oldsmobile Cutlass and Pontiac
Grand Prix. While NASCAR Winston Cup Series cars must maintain a weight of 3,400
pounds and a wheelbase of 110 inches, Raybestos Brakes Northwest Series cars weigh
a minimum of 2,900 pounds and have a wheelbase between 101 and 105 inches. Both
series' cars are powered by 350 to 358 cubic inch V-8 engines
|
O'Reilly All-Star Series
The cars that compete in the O'Reilly Auto Parts All-Star Series are Late Model stock cars that differ greatly from some of their asphalt counterparts. The cars use a standard small block-type engine averaging 358 cubic inches, but there is no specific compression rule, unlike the NASCAR Winston Cup Series machines that are limited to a 12:1 compression ratio. The O'Reilly Auto Parts All-Star Series requires the use of two-door sedan aftermarket bodies that resemble late model cars from 1990-99. Cars must have a wheelbase of 103 inches and weigh between 2,400 to 2,650 pounds.
|
RE/MAX Challenge Series
RE/MAX Challenge Series races are open to eligible 1997 through 2000 models of American-made production passenger sedans. Approved car models include the Chevrolet Monte Carlo, Ford Taurus and Thunderbird, Oldsmobile Cutlass and Pontiac Grand Prix. RE/MAX Challenge Series cars are slightly smaller versions of those seen in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series. While a NASCAR Winston Cup Series car weighs 3,400 pounds and has a wheelbase of 110 inches, a RE/MAX Challenge Series car must weigh a minimum of 2,900 pounds and have a wheelbase of between 101 and 105 inches. Both series' cars are powered by 350 to 358 cubic inch V-8 engines.
